02/10/12- What bike is for me? First thanks for coming to our store for your choice. Lets get right to it. Your need to clear your mind of what your freinds are telling you, what you read in magazines, and any other environmental pressures. What do you really want a bike for? 1- do you want to save gas? 2- are you wanting to cruise on your days off? 3- Would a bike be cheap transportation? 4- Do you want to road race? These are all the questions only YOU can answer. Have your mind made up, before you go shopping. Be warned that many of the NEW line dealerships are offered hidden incentives by the factories to sell a specific product. Where ever you buy, dont be pressured into something you know you dont like. If you like the look of a sportbike, but know your not going to be a pro road racer, you might want to ask specific questions. Many of todays high line sportbikes, come track ready. Inverted forks, floating brake systems, special rear sets, performance suspension, are all items you dont need just to drive to Embry Riddle everyday. These stock performance upgrades can add thousands to a sticker price. For example the Kawasaki ZZR is a great looking, great performing sport bike...but will cost you thousands less than a 636R. The biggest issue with cruisers is power. Many cruisers are driven by a 2 piston engine, and no matter what you hear...there is no mathmatical way two pistons will create as much horsepower as four. For example, a 750 Honda Spirit puts out about 68 horsepower, and a 750 Suzuki GSXR 750 puts out around 106. Again, the simple physics of two vs four. Make sure the cruiser you pick can get the job done for you. If you know your 210 lbs. and your spouse is 140 lbs, and you plan on mostly tandem riding....a 500cc cruiser is not going to get the job done! In next weeks blog, we will cover everything you need to know about scooters. With gas going to $4.70 this summer, please tune back in. Thanks

02/01/12 - The Tax, Tag, and Title thing...Many customers step up to a sales counter, or go into the finance office and are soon shocked or dismayed, when they see additional fee's added on to the purchase price. Please understand this sure isnt our idea :(  The state of Florida has a few regulations/laws that control this situation. If you and your wife decided to open a vehicle dealership tomorrow, you would go down to the Florida department of motor vehicles and fill out a dealer application. Amoungst that barrage of paper work is an affidavit of compliance, which you must have notarized. That document states that you and your wife will collect the appropriate sales tax on each vehicle sold, and that you will secure a title to the vehilce in the customers name, and finally you will make sure they have a legal way (temp tag) to drive the vehicle home. The FLHSMV then provides you with a written handbook demonstrating these procedures. Dealerships are audited by the state every year. If your dealership is found in violation of state regs, your license can be suspended, revoked, or the owner fined up to $10,000. Again, we hate that whole "surprise" you owe the state $650.00!!! but this is the way they have it set up. Please check www.floridador.gov/dmvor read:Chapters 212 and 213, Florida Statutes (F.S.) Rule Chapter 12A-1.007, Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.)We invite your emails or blogs.

Please drop us a comment at the bottom page of any vehicle you are concidering. Thanks and have a great ride!
